CNE Monatsmagazin Digest
April-May 2006
English Summary
Johan Norberg - CNE´s new Senior Fellow talking about his plans and his new book: "In a way it is an extension of the last book. That book explained the benefits of globalisation. This time around, I explain what a country has to do before it can globalise. It is a manifesto on human creativity and entrepreneurship, which explains why all the wealth and opportunities we have are created by free individuals. And then it goes on to discuss the institutions and attitudes we have today, which encourages or hinders that creativity. You could say that it is a book on gratitude, since it is my way of paying tribute to the innovators and capitalists that created this world."
Gerard Radnitzky - a tribute to an outstanding individualist in a collectivist era. Hardy Bouillon about his life-long mentor and friend: "Against the background of a permanent tension between liberalism and democracy, Radnitzky looked for alternatives in a totally free and private society. One of the great American newspapers once called him "right-wing anarchist". He took it as a compliment. However, he was a libertarian in his own right who preferred to call his ideal of a free society "synarchy".
Views on the book: Five renowned authors on the intellectual legacy of a man who relentlessly fought "phoney contemporary history" (historical misrepresentation): "The damned 20th century. Memories and reflexions by a political incorrect" ("Das verdammte 20. Jahrhundert. Erinnerungen und Reflexionen eines politisch Unkorrekten") by Gerard Radnitzky. "An intellectual feast" (Roland Baader), "superb and brilliant" (Gerd Habermann), "heart-bracingly political incorrect (Hans-Hermann Hoppe), "unbeatable perspective" (Otto von Habsburg), "most valuable insights" (Wolfgang Kasper)
The Macro Issues of the Microsoft Case: The Centre for the New Europe and the Competitive Enterprise Institute hoste a Brussels conference focusing on the risks to innovation and competitiveness of Europe 's embracing American-style antitrust regulation and blocking of industry institutional evolution. The Microsoft case signals a move toward micro-managing the way businesses organize and re-organize over time, a profoundly anti-competitive and dangerous stance. Among the speakers were Ronald A. Cass, Stan Liebowitz, Jonathan Zuck and Gabriel Calzada.
German labour law in disarray: According to the Unification Treaty, Germany was supposed to unify German labour law, says Angar Lange (NeueNachricht). More than 15 years later the job is not done. Numerous laws have never been critically examined by German "Ordnungspolitik", criticizes Lange. According to law expert Markus Mingers, clearing out German labour law would help boost the German economy.
