Karen Horn Appointed to Fellowship at Centre for the New Europe (CNE)

BRUSSELS, 07 JANUARY 2008 — Brussels’ leading free market think tank is delighted to announce the appointment as a Fellow, with immediate effect, of Dr Karen Horn, formerly Economics Editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and now head of the Berlin office of Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Köln.

Dr Horn will contribute regular papers to CNE’s expanding publications’ schedule and to the soon-to-be revamped CNE site www.cne.org and will be closely involved with CNE’s activities. Stephen Pollard, CNE President, said:

“I am thrilled to welcome Karen on board. It is a coup for us to have her with us, with her strong background in journalism, academia and policy research. Karen adds further lustre to CNE’s roster of fellows.”
Over the next few weeks, CNE will be appointing a series of new Fellows in addition to its existing lineup. All are internationally recognised leaders in their field.

Karen Horn is head of the Berlin office of Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Köln, a private economic research institute. Earlier, she served as an economic policy editor for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany’s leading daily newspaper. Karen was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1966. She studied economics in Saarbrücken, Germany, and in Bordeaux, France. She took part in a PhD program at the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland, and in 1995 completed her thesis in Public Finance. Karen is a member of the Mont Pèlerin Society, a member of the board of trustees of the Walter Eucken Institut, and a member of the jury for the Federal Business Film Award sponsored by the German government. She also takes part in a number of academic advisory councils. In 1997, she was awarded the “Ludwig-Erhard-Förderpreis” for economic journalism, and in 2005, the “Publizistik-Preis” of the Friedrich-August-von-Hayek-Stiftung. She has published a book on “Morals and Markets” and another one on the French philosopher Benjamin Constant.
