Slovak Economic Reforms:
Myths and Realities



The Issue

Martin Stefunko will first give a general overview of Slovakia (politics, economics) before the reforms and after the reforms. He will then present what have been the most important reforms: Tax Reform, Health Care Reform, Pension Reform in order to show what are the positive and negative points of the reforms.

He will conclude with the political and economic prospects of Slovakia.

The Speaker

photo: Martin StefunkoMartin Stefunko has been recently awarded his PhD in Economics and the History of Economic Thought at the university of Bratislava. He is a prolific writer and journalist. A contributor to newspaper and publications such as SME, Trend, Domino Forum, OS and Hospodárske Noviny, he has also written many scholarly papers and contributed a number of chapters to various books.

He has also been a recipient of a Rowley Fellowship to the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama, USA; a Národohospodár Foundation Award winner for Excellent Study Performance in an MA program, and a Penta Group Award winner for Outstanding Academic Performance.
