photo of Michael O. AppelMichael O. Appel is one of Denmark’s leading health economists. After graduating in economics at Copenhagen University in 1989, he worked at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Denmark.

Since 2000, he has worked as a consultant on market-oriented reforms of the health care sector to both the Ministry of Health and the Economic Council of the Labour Movement.

He is the co-author of Organisering af sundhedssektoren (The Organization of the Health Care Sector), which includes a description of reform initiatives across the OECD and a critical analysis of the incentives in the present Danish system.

He serves as an advisor for Markedscentret, the Danish free market think tank, on issues regarding health care economics.
