photo of Roger HelmerRoger has spent more than 10 years living and working abroad, mainly in south-east Asia. He worked negotiating and managing joint ventures in Vietnam, Philippines, and Guam/ Saipan. He has lived in Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Korea. Formerly a member of the Policy Committee of the Leicester Chamber of Commerce, corporate member of the CBI, and Vice President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Seoul, Korea; Roger is now a member of the Countryside Alliance, National Farmers Union, Business for Sterling, and Lutyens Trust. In September 1998, Roger was selected as the #1 Conservative candidate in the East Midlands for the European elections. He gave up his job as MD of Donisthorpe & Co (a Leicester textile company) to campaign full-time and, although this was the first time he had ever stood for public office, his business experience and skills served him well. The East Midlands Conservative team achieved an excellent result, with Roger and Chris Heaton-Harris being elected. Roger now sits on two European Parliament committees - Industry, External Trade, Research and Energy; and Employment and Social Affairs. He is also a member of the ASEAN delegation. You can read about his work in committees, the ASEAN delegation, plenary sessions and the constituency in What's New. Roger's candid opinions on the defence of the British nation state and the protection of its sovereignty reflect the values of and provide a voice for the people of Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland.
